Overshare is a totally new kind of "book". It's sort of like an epistolary novel, sort of like a graphic novel, sort of like a traditional novel, and yet, not quite any of those things. It's unlike any ebook that's come before.
Overshare tells the (fictional) story of Michael Ayres, a young man embarking on a year filled with far more changes and challenges than he can handle. Michael's story is told entirely in the form of his own, public updates to various social media sites, where he reveals much more about himself and what's going on in his life than he intends or realizes—often as much through what he doesn't post, as what he does. The reader sees Michael's "Faceplace" updates and images, his friends' responses to them, his "twiddle" updates, and his blog posts, just the same as if they were being viewed online on real websites.
Overshare poses the question given how easily the reader can see Michael's life unraveling, despite not knowing him personally, how easily can the reader's social media followers open a window into the reader's own life as well?

(Note - due to the graphics-heavy nature of this full-color ebook, it's strongly suggested the reader view it on a Fire device or in any of the free, full-color Reader apps (available in the store). The book still works on a black and white reader, but the experience is far richer in color. Also, note that on a Fire device, tapping any of the images twice will enlarge them.)

I prefer to read on my e-ink Kindle but was intrigued by the description of Overshare which seemed to be specifically created for the Fire and other tablet readers. It does format beautifully on the Fire. However, while the concept was original, the topic was not. The storyline is not that different than one would see on any social media board. Yes, certain people love to share every thought, action, etc. but does anyone other than their immediate family and really close friends really care ?I kept reading hoping in vain for something that would make me care about the characters or some drama related to the over sharing of personal information in a public media. The abrupt ending left me with a feeling of having wasted my time. It could have been so much better.

Overshare edition by April L Hamilton Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
for the most part.
A year of a young man's life as portrayed through his social media - FacePlace, twiddle and his personal blog. It's an interesting idea and Ms. Hamilton carries it off... 95% of the way through. I feel the final change in the main character's life gets the short shrift - the clues are there, but as someone who's gone through that change twice in his life (damn, avoiding spoilers is difficult) I feel it would at least merit a blog post, even if it were a second, third, or fourth attempt to convey the news in a neutral manner.
I find it odd that I wasn't shocked at all by the amount of the character's personal life that leaked out through his use of social media. Perhaps I and my friends are way into overshare already, but he seemed rather restrained in many places.
In no way meaning to damn with faint praise however, any story that works 95% of the time is way ahead of the curve, and I enjoyed the ride all the way through.
Warning to those who know my normal tastes in reading - this is not a genre story. Straight fiction, no chaser, and well worth the reading.
This is a different approach to formal storytelling yet we're all exposed to the mode every day. It's the story of thirteen crucial months of a young man's life told via his social media faceplace, twiddle and blog. You even have photos illustrating the life-changes as they happen. The story's both of a young man's life and a cautionary fable about "oversharing."
The story takes Michael Ayres, a young twenty-something, through approximately thirteen months of his life. What he shares in his posts and what we learn second-hand reveals more about Michael's character than he perhaps would want us to discover. Michael's growth is shown not just through what he says and does not, but photographically as his appearance along with the photos he shares change.
For readers of Facebook and Twitter, the story's going to be easy to read. Everything's arranged by date, but the newest information is on top. So, when you go to a new month, you're reading upside-down. Depending on your e-reader, scrolling may pose a slight problem going bottom-to-top, but the effort is well worth the trouble.
